The Winter of My Discontent...........!

The garlic & onions are as anxious as I am to do something
This is moss growth this winter
It's that time of the year when all thoughts turn to Hawaii, or Southern California, or Texas............. some place with sunshine at least once in awhile!  So goes February in Western Washington.

It Started Out So Innocently......

Basket is overflowing with the garden's bounty!

Just some blossoms at first

Then some green, unripened fruit on every plant.

Lots of green leaves.

Then it starts, slowly at first............

A Fresh Start

Some color
This is what the garden bed looks like this week.  This could change again as Tom is very handy with the shovel.

Tom thinks that the crows are the only birds using the bath, but I've seen robins.

Mostly green

We bought 2 of these plants to add some color to our new area .  They are suppose to bloom all Summer so we shall see how that goes.

A bit of color

Roses
We are getting lots of blooms this year so my vases are full inside the house, & there are still plenty for the neighbors to enjoy outside.

Fruits & Vegetables

Blueberries
Squash & lettuce
Strawberries
Carrots, beets, & beans

Peas & lettuce
Peas (self-starters)

We've been enjoying salads & strawberry short cake already!  Also eating fresh snap peas off the vine.

How Does Our Garden Grow?

What a difference a couple days of sunshine are making in our garden.  We are hoping for earlier crops this year.  We still have a few more veggies to plant.  Looking forward to next weekend.

This is how we started out this year's garden

In the front are carrots then beets & the beans are in the back.

This lettuce wintered over as did the garlic.  We are wondering how tough the leaves will be.  Notice the strawberries & rhubarb.  Might be making a pie next weekend - yum!

This is peas, garlic & onions in this bed.

Landscapers Wanted.....

This is how it looks so far.  We've only had to replant half of the bushes from where we first placed them.  So, look carefully, because the next time you see this part of our yard the bushes may have moved to new homes.........

The birds actually enjoy this birdfeeder on our old maple stump.  Looks like a saddle to us.

Fenced In !?!

Our government should be so proud of us as we went with a green fence.  This should cut our carbon footprint down.  Now we don't feel so guilty about all the time we spend in our car on the roads.
